Application pipeline
How to apply for MBBS in China from Pakistan — every step.
Two intakes exist: the September intake (main, most seats) and a smaller March intake at some universities. September-intake deadlines usually run April–July depending on the university. Missing a document in June can cost you the whole year.
Step 1 — Check eligibility (February–April)
- FSc Pre-Medical or A-Levels equivalent (Biology + Chemistry required)
- Minimum 60% (many good programs ask 65–70%)
- Age 17+ at enrollment
- MDCAT: per PM&DC notice Exam-59/2026/3 (5 Oct 2026), the mandatory MDCAT pass is exempted as a prerequisite for seeking admission into foreign medical/dental institutions. Keep the notice PDF; verify any separate attestation requirements directly with PM&DC.
- Valid passport — apply for one NOW if you don't have it; police verification takes weeks
Step 2 — Shortlist universities and verify recognition (March–May)
- Check the school in the World Directory of Medical Schools with an ECFMG eligibility note — this is the operative NRE gate under PM&DC's 31 July 2026 notice
- Confirm the university is on MOE China's list of institutions authorized to teach MBBS in English
- Compare total 6-year cost, not just tuition — see our fees breakdown
Step 3 — Prepare documents (April–June)
- FSc certificate and marks sheet, attested (IBCC attestation)
- Passport copy — valid 18+ months ideally
- Passport photos (white background)
- Police clearance certificate
- Physical examination form (university template, completed by a registered doctor)
- Bank statement or sponsor letter showing you can fund year one (about $6,000–10,000)
Step 4 — Apply (May–July)
Two legitimate routes:
- Direct to the university via its international students portal — free, but slower responses and you're on your own for paperwork nuances.
- Through CUCAS or a verified application platform — they handle document formatting, track the application, and flag errors before they cost you the intake. This is the route most Pakistani students use.
Step 5 — Admission letter + JW202 (June–August)
Once accepted you receive the Admission Notice plus the JW202 form (the "Visa Application for Study in China" form issued by Chinese authorities for programs longer than 180 days; some universities issue the electronic DQ variant). This form is the key to your visa — no JW202, no X1 visa.
Step 6 — X1 student visa (July–August)
- Apply at the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad or the Consulates in Lahore/Karachi
- Documents: passport, admission notice, JW202, physical exam, photos, completed visa form
- The X1 visa is usually issued for 30 days — you convert it to a residence permit within 30 days of arrival
Step 7 — Fly and register (August–September)
- Book flights 4–6 weeks out for sane prices
- Pay fees at the university's official counter or official bank account on registration day — never to a personal account before arrival
- Register with police within 24 hours of arrival (universities usually handle this)
- Complete the medical check in China → residence permit
